Teaching & Learning Centers
Free, community-based classrooms where 500+ underprivileged children in Prayagraj receive quality education, mentorship, and the confidence to dream bigger.
What Are Our Teaching & Learning Centers
Jana Vidya Foundation operates free teaching and learning centers across four locations in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. These centers serve as safe, structured spaces where children from underprivileged families receive academic instruction, mentorship, and holistic development support at no cost. Each center is staffed by trained volunteers who follow a curriculum aligned with the Uttar Pradesh state board, ensuring that students can seamlessly integrate what they learn at our centers with their formal schooling.
Jana Vidya Foundation runs free teaching and learning centers in Phaphamau, Naini, Jhunsi, and Handia in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. These centers provide quality education to more than 500 underprivileged students, covering subjects such as mathematics, science, Hindi, English, and life skills. Staffed by over 100 trained volunteers, the centers operate six days a week and follow the Uttar Pradesh state curriculum. Jana Vidya Foundation was established in 2023 with the mission of creating impact through education. The teaching centers are the backbone of this mission, offering free tuition, exam preparation, creative arts, and digital literacy to children who would otherwise lack access to supplementary academic support. Each center also serves as a community hub where parents engage with educators about their children's progress.
The idea behind these centers is simple but powerful: if a child cannot reach a good school, we bring the school to the child. Many of the families we serve earn daily wages and cannot afford private tuition. Government schools in the areas we operate are often understaffed and under-resourced. Our centers fill that gap by providing consistent, structured, and caring educational environments where every child is seen, heard, and supported.
Beyond academics, our centers function as community anchors. Parents attend monthly meetings to discuss their children's progress. Local youth volunteer as teaching assistants, gaining leadership experience. The centers become places of trust, aspiration, and collective growth.
Where We Operate
Our four centers are strategically located in areas of Prayagraj where educational access is most limited.
Phaphamau
Our oldest center in Phaphamau serves over 150 students from nearby slum areas. Classes run six days a week with dedicated volunteer teachers covering mathematics, science, Hindi, and English.
Naini
The Naini center focuses on children from migrant worker families who often face disrupted schooling. We provide continuity through flexible scheduling and personalized attention.
Jhunsi
Located near the Sangam, our Jhunsi center reaches children from farming communities. Weekend workshops on environmental science connect lessons to the local landscape.
Handia
The Handia center is our rural outpost, bringing education to a tehsil where government school attendance remains below the state average. We bridge gaps in primary-level literacy and numeracy.
What We Teach
A volunteer-led curriculum designed to build strong academic foundations and essential life skills.
Core Academics
Mathematics, science, Hindi, English, and social studies aligned with the state curriculum so students can keep pace with formal schooling.
Exam Preparation
Focused coaching for board exams and competitive entrance tests, including practice papers and mock exams conducted every quarter.
Life Skills
Communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and basic digital literacy sessions prepare students for the world beyond the classroom.
Creative Arts
Drawing, storytelling, and cultural activities that build confidence and allow children to express themselves freely.
Our teaching methodology emphasizes active learning. Volunteers use visual aids, group discussions, storytelling, and hands-on activities to make lessons engaging. We avoid rote memorization in favor of conceptual understanding. Each student receives individual attention through small class sizes — typically 15 to 20 students per volunteer — ensuring that no child falls behind.
Quarterly assessments help us track progress and identify areas where students need additional support. We share results with parents and adjust teaching plans accordingly. This feedback loop keeps our instruction responsive and student-centered.
Our Impact
Since our first center opened in 2023, we have witnessed tangible outcomes. Students who attend our centers regularly show measurable improvement in their school grades. Several students have gone on to clear competitive exams and secure admission to reputed secondary schools. Parents report increased motivation and self-confidence in their children.
Beyond test scores, the true impact is in the stories: a first-generation learner who now dreams of becoming a doctor, a girl from Handia who topped her class after joining our center, a teenage boy in Naini who returned to school after dropping out. These stories remind us why this work matters.
Support Our Teaching Centers
Every contribution — whether your time, skills, or financial support — directly transforms a child's future.
You can support our teaching centers in several ways. As a volunteer teacher, you can dedicate a few hours each week to teaching subjects you are passionate about. If you are a professional, consider mentoring older students or conducting career guidance sessions. Financial donations help us cover learning materials, infrastructure maintenance, and transportation for students who live far from the centers.
Corporate partners can sponsor an entire center or fund specific programs such as exam preparation coaching or digital literacy workshops. Every form of support helps us sustain and expand our reach so that more children in Prayagraj can access the education they deserve.
