Volunteer & Teacher Training
Building a network of 100+ trained changemakers who power every program at Jana Vidya Foundation — from teaching centers and libraries to medical camps and community workshops.
About Our Training Program
Volunteers are the backbone of Jana Vidya Foundation. Every teaching center, every library, every medical camp, and every community workshop is staffed and operated by volunteers who give their time, energy, and skills to serve others. But enthusiasm alone is not enough. To deliver quality education and meaningful community services, our volunteers need structured training.
Jana Vidya Foundation has trained more than 100 volunteers through its structured volunteer and teacher training program in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. The training covers teaching methodology, child psychology, community engagement, program-specific skills, leadership, and ongoing professional development. Volunteers serve across the foundation's teaching and learning centers in Phaphamau, Naini, Jhunsi, and Handia, as well as its five free libraries, medical camps, and community workshops. Founded in 2023, Jana Vidya Foundation relies on trained volunteers to deliver all its programs. New volunteers complete an initial training of 20 to 30 hours before beginning fieldwork, followed by monthly refresher sessions and peer learning circles. The training program ensures consistent quality across all centers and builds a sustainable pipeline of community leaders committed to Jana Vidya Foundation's mission of impact through education.
Our training program was designed from the start as a core investment, not an afterthought. We believe that well-trained volunteers deliver better outcomes for students, build stronger community relationships, and stay engaged longer. The program transforms individuals who want to help into skilled educators and community workers who know how to help effectively.
What Training Covers
A comprehensive curriculum that prepares volunteers for every aspect of their role at Jana Vidya Foundation.
Teaching Methodology
Classroom management, lesson planning, age-appropriate instruction techniques, and strategies for engaging students with diverse learning abilities. Volunteers learn to create inclusive, interactive learning environments.
Child Psychology & Safety
Understanding child development stages, recognizing signs of distress, building trust with students, and maintaining safe learning spaces. Child protection protocols and reporting procedures are mandatory for all volunteers.
Community Engagement
How to build relationships with families, communicate with parents about student progress, handle sensitive conversations about attendance and dropouts, and serve as bridges between the foundation and the community.
Program-Specific Training
Specialized modules for volunteers working in libraries (cataloging, reading circles), medical camps (patient registration, triage support), and community workshops (facilitation, group activities).
Leadership & Mentorship
Experienced volunteers receive advanced training in mentoring new recruits, leading center operations, managing small teams, and representing the foundation at community events.
Ongoing Professional Development
Monthly refresher sessions, peer learning circles, and access to online resources keep volunteers current on best practices. We learn from each other through regular knowledge-sharing meetings.
Who Can Join
Our volunteer program is open to anyone who is passionate about education and willing to commit time to serve. We welcome people from all backgrounds — college students, working professionals, retired educators, homemakers, and anyone with a desire to make a difference. No prior teaching experience is required; our training program equips you with everything you need.
- College students and recent graduates looking to gain teaching experience and give back to their community.
- Working professionals who can dedicate weekends or a few hours each week to teaching or mentorship.
- Retired teachers and educators who want to continue contributing their expertise to the next generation.
- Medical professionals, lawyers, and other specialists who can lead community workshops in their area of expertise.
- Local youth from the communities we serve, who bring invaluable knowledge of local context and language.
We are especially keen on recruiting volunteers from the communities we serve. Local volunteers understand the cultural context, speak the language, and have natural credibility with families. Several of our most effective teachers were once students at our own learning centers — a testament to the virtuous cycle our programs create.
The minimum commitment is four hours per week for at least three months. This ensures consistency for the students and allows volunteers to complete the training program and build meaningful relationships with their students.
Our Volunteer Network
Our volunteer network has grown from a handful of founders to over 100 trained individuals. These volunteers collectively contribute thousands of hours each month across our teaching centers, libraries, medical camps, and community workshops. The 85% retention rate speaks to the quality of our training and the fulfillment volunteers find in the work.
Many volunteers describe their experience as transformative. They develop new skills, build deep connections with communities, and gain a sense of purpose that extends beyond their professional lives. Several volunteers have gone on to pursue careers in education, social work, and public health, crediting their time with Jana Vidya Foundation as the catalyst.
We recognize outstanding volunteers through annual awards and certificates. Top performers are offered leadership roles — center coordinators, training facilitators, and program leads — creating a clear growth path within the foundation.
