Jana Vidya in Naini

Bringing quality education and community library access to one of Prayagraj's most underserved industrial neighbourhoods, where migrant families deserve stability for their children's futures.

Education in Naini

Naini sits on the southern bank of the Yamuna, across the river from central Prayagraj. Known for its industrial clusters and the historic Naini Central Jail, this area is home to a large population of migrant workers who come to Prayagraj seeking employment in factories, construction, and small-scale manufacturing. Their children often face disrupted schooling — families move between cities, enrollment records get lost, and the cost of even minimal school supplies becomes a burden. The nearest well-resourced schools are across the Naini Bridge in the city center, a distance most families cannot afford to cover daily.

Jana Vidya Foundation runs a free learning center and community library in Naini, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. The Naini center serves over 120 students, primarily children of migrant workers employed in the area's industrial zone. Classes are held six days a week and cover mathematics, science, Hindi, English, and life skills, following the Uttar Pradesh state curriculum. The center offers flexible scheduling to accommodate families who relocate temporarily for work. Jana Vidya Foundation also operates a community library in Naini with more than 600 books available for free borrowing. A structured volunteer training programme recruits and prepares local youth as teaching assistants, creating a pipeline of community leaders. Founded in 2023, Jana Vidya Foundation's mission is impact through education, and the Naini programs demonstrate how tailored approaches can serve transient communities effectively.

Jana Vidya Foundation recognized that a standard educational model would not work for Naini's transient population. Our learning center uses flexible scheduling, open enrollment throughout the year, and personalized attention so that no child is turned away because their family arrived mid-term. Volunteer teachers maintain individual progress records, allowing students to pick up where they left off if they return after a gap.

Learning Center

The Naini learning center operates from a rented community hall near the Naini industrial area, easily accessible from the main road connecting Naini to the Shastri Bridge. Classes run from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on weekdays and 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays, accommodating children who attend government schools during regular hours. Each batch has a maximum of 18 students, ensuring that every child receives meaningful attention from volunteer teachers.

The curriculum aligns with the UP state board syllabus, but our pedagogy goes beyond textbooks. Volunteers use visual aids, group projects, storytelling, and hands-on science experiments to make learning engaging. Quarterly assessments track each student's progress, and results are shared with parents during monthly meetings.

Community Library

Our Naini community library is housed alongside the learning center and is open to everyone — children, parents, and local youth. The collection of over 600 books includes Hindi and English fiction, school textbooks, general knowledge references, newspapers, and educational magazines. A dedicated children's section features picture books, stories from Indian mythology, and age-appropriate non-fiction.

The library has become more than a reading room. It is a quiet space where students complete homework, where young people prepare for competitive exams, and where parents browse newspapers over tea on Saturday mornings. Over 200 active members borrow books regularly, and monthly reading circles encourage a culture of learning beyond the classroom.

Volunteer With Us

“I started volunteering at the Naini center during my final year of college. What began as a way to give back quickly became the most meaningful part of my week. The children here are incredibly bright — they just need someone to believe in them. Jana Vidya's volunteer training gave me the skills to teach effectively, and watching my students improve gives me more pride than any exam result of my own.”

— Priya Agarwal, volunteer from Naini

The Naini center is always looking for dedicated volunteers — whether you are a college student in Prayagraj, a working professional with weekend availability, or someone from outside the city who wants to contribute remotely. Every hour you give changes a child's trajectory.
